And after seeing our National Championship boat I have one word to say...WOW! Of course we knew that the boat flipped in the final race in Doha, Qatar back in Novemeber, and that driver Steve David suffered a cracked bone in his leg. But until you SEE this boat you cannot begin to appreciate and respect what our crew did to get her and Steve back on the water for the final race of the year!! Check out these new pics from the shop this weekend and I think you'll agree...we've go the BEST crew in the world!! This boat should've been in pieces. 2/4/10 The National Championship boat is ready to pull out of Jacksonville's port and head back to Madison! I believe the boats will leave around September 28th for the long journey across the ocean. 8/23/09 We came out of the final with a third! And that was from the outside! We were disqualified from heat 1A for a lane violation against the U16. Our next heat was 2A, where we took a first! Heat 3B saw us take a second in lane 2 to the U3 in lane 1. We've had the display boat (aka former hull) out and about in Evansville this week in anticipation of the Thunder on the Ohio! Show the Evansville folks how much this race means to you by coming and cheering on your favorite green, red, and silver team! Don't forget this will be the last US race before heading to Qatar in November to defend our High Points title. Come out and support your team! 8/9/09 To help tide everyone over these 2 weeks waiting for the Evansville race, I've posted LOTS of TriCites and Seattle photos! Don't forget that we are still leading the National High Points by 249 points! Be prepared to cheer your heart out on the weekend of August 22-23! 8/2/09 We were running well in the final, going after Elam from lane 2. After a bad hop in turn 2 sent Steve and the boat into the air the motor overheated. Steve was able to baby it, but not without dropping back to 6th place. Steve's handling of the boat prevented the damage from being worse. We still have a small points lead going into the Evansville race in 3 weeks! 8/1/09 What an awesome heat we ran today! It was a fight to the very end, with the Elam edging us out at the finish line. That may be the best heat we've seen all season! Hats off to both teams! We almost took back top qualifier but had an n2 violation! Maybe we'll get another shot! 7/31/09 We had the top qualifying spot for a good part of Friday until the Miss Elam went out and broke it by about a tenth of a mile per hour. We have more qualifying and testing on Saturday, so we'll see if we can grab that top spot back! Stay tuned for more updates throughout the weekend. They won't be as frequent as I do not have a good internet connection at the race. 7/30/09 The team got the boat settled into the pits today and ready for awesome racing this weekend! Make sure to check back all weekend to see how we are doing at the Seattle Seafair! 7/26/09 We won TriCities for the second year in a row!! What a great race Steve ran today! The entire crew really came together to bring this one home. I know all of our crew that couldn't make this race are cheering right along side us! 7/25/09 We ran in one heat today here in TriCities and took first place! We did receive a penalty in that heat for pushing out in a turn that cost us 150 of our 400 points. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the weekend! 7/24/09 We took the top qualifying slot today with a lap of 161.957mph! Then we took first in the Dash for Cash! U5 gave us some great competition until he came unhooked in roostertail turn and slid out behind us. Steve went on to hold off the U7 as well! Great win!! We took 2nd in qualifying yesterday with an awesome speed of 157.379mph! 7/6/09 We have drawn Heat 1A, which looks like a fantastic heat as we face the U5 & U7! Stay tuned for results all weekend long! There are a TON of new photos up from this weekends Madison Regatta! And make sure you check out the photos of the lucky recipients of some free Oberto tshirts shot into the crowd on Saturday! 7/5/09 We took a THIRD place in the final! We started as the second trailer but made our way up to the 3rd spot! Great job by Steve and the entire team for a GREAT weekend of racing! We came in 2nd in Heat 3C! We have made the final as the 2nd trailer. We met the U16 again today in Heat 2C! Steve was pushing that boat to stay ahead of the Elam, and was doing just that until he hit a hole in turn 1. But Steve ran an AWESOME race! And we've drawn the 16 again for Heat 3C!. Stay tuned for photos coming up from all of the weekend's festivities. 7/4/09 We took 3rd in Heat 1C after hitting buoy in the apex of turn one. Happy 4th of July to everyone! Stay tuned for our speeds after we hit the water! Steve has taken the U-1 out several times today and is consistently hitting 153mph with some 154's thrown in! The boat looks beautiful on the water here in Madison. Stay tuned for more updates and photos all weekend long! 7/2/09 If you are heading to Madison for the Regatta, make sure to watch out for these cards! There will be a limited number of them available, so get them while they last! 6/30/09 Check out these cool new cards that we'll be giving out this season! Don't forget to have Steve and the team sign them for you! Check back tomorrow for another update...the Madison Regatta is only a few more days away!! 6/29/09 Ever wonder how a 55 year old boat racer prepares himself for race weekend? Check out this great article about our very own Steve David. And I wouldn't go calling him "old" if I were you... 6/26/09
6/8/09 Check back often now as we are preparing to bombard the U-1 fans with everything Oberto! You'll also notice a mold in the pics (link is the photo below). This mold is of the right nontrip, the back section of the boat below the stabilizer. This part takes a beating going through the turns, so the team repaired it completely in this offseason and the made a mold. Now if this part fails in the future, it'll be a lot easier to fabricate the new part with the mold. As always a big thanks to Larry Hanson for walking me through this! 4/27/09 Have YOU bought some jerky to get ready for this racing season? What about the inflatable boat?? If not then YOU definitely need to head over to the Oberto stores! This link will take you to all of the great products that the Oberto company makes AND the race gear! Then head over HERE to check out the new Eat Like An Alpha site! Race season is fast approaching so make sure that you have everything you need to cheer the U-1 returning National Champion on to another season win! 2/15/09 Last nights banquet was AWESOME! Our local paper, The Madison Courier, took the Best Newspaper Coverage for the Season! Local radio station WORX took top Radio Coverage for the Season!! What a great evening for the entire city of Madison! I know we are all so proud of the work all of these folks have done for the team and the sport. I know you all join me in a big THANK YOU!! 2/11/09 The crew had another motor on the test cart! Larry Hanson said they've been working on them all this winter and are preparing to send them off to be "dynoed". They have a part coming in for the motor than got damaged in Evansville last year and then they will be ready to be taken out west to be put on the dyno! Lots of testing goes on there with different setups to make sure they are getting the most out of the setup they put in the boat. 2/1/09 Attention fans & friends...we are having a PARTY to celebrate our National Championship!! Plan to attend the celebration on February 13th in Madison at the Madison Moose Lodge. Tickets are available through the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce(contact info) for $40 per person. Doors will open at 5:30 with the party starting at 6pm! 1/19/09 Some photos from the previous trip to the shop...
1/12/09 This weekend I stopped by to see how the U-1 crew is doing during this offseason! I met up with Richard Dunn, John Ashby, & Larry Hanson and got the latest. They've been spending some time on the left sponson doing some repair work leftover from the championship season in the skid fin area. Some new parts are being made to replace those that cannot be repaired.
