Hydroplanes return to Madison! On September 4th, 5th, and 6th, the feature film "Madison" will begin production with a Labor Day 70's Fest extravaganza on Madison's Ohio River shoreline. The festival will include the re-creation of the 1971 Regatta on the river, which will be filmed by the "Madison" film crew. The feature film, starring Jim Caviezel ("Thin Red Line") and Jake Lloyd ("Star Wars") is the true story of the Miss Madison's miracle win in the 1971 Gold Cup hydroplane races. Both Lloyd and Caviezel will be present for the weekend's shooting. There will be live bands and a DJ, continuous prize and travel give aways (including a trip to Los Angeles for the movie's premier), and an oppurtunity to win a walk-on part in the movie. Other events include contests for the best 70's outfits, face painting, many food vendors to choose from who will be offering food at 70's prices, clowns, jugglers, merchandise booths, and much more. Picnics are also encouraged. Participation in the costume contests is not necessary, but all are encouraged to get into the spirit by wearing 60's and 70's clothing and hairstyles. "It's going to be a great party," said Tony Steinhardt, member of the 1971 Gold Cup winning team, "an opportunity to watch some great boat racing, win prizes and be in the movie." All ages are welcome. The public is invited to arrive at 8:00 AM and stay until after dusk. Crowds are needed early in the morning, but people can arrive anytime. The earlier persons arrive, the more raffle tickets they will receive, and the greater the likelihood of winning prizes.
